Oprah’s Favorite Things (AKA Dr. Kevin’s Favorite Things)

I can’t say that I was a big Oprah watcher, but I always remember my beautiful wife Beth would love to what Oprah’s “Favorite Things” episode. “You get a toaster, and you get a toaster”! So maybe this should have been done prior to Christmas but here is a list of my favorite “things, tricks, hacks, Apps” that I use on a regular basis.


MyFitnessPal is a free phone app provided by Under Armour. This app helps you track your nutrition/macros in a very simple and intuitive way. The app allows you to scan any food with a bar code and I have yet to stump its food library. I find that even the exercise of having to track your food and put it into the app will cause people to eat better and less. Once you determine your BMR you can easily determine your macro breakdowns based on the food plan you choose to follow. If your goal is to lose weight take you BMR and reduce it by 15%. EPABO Contour Memory Foam Pillow:

Other than beds, pillows are a close second for recommendations people ask for. I must give this one up to one of my Rockstar patients Adriana. Adriana found this pillow and recommended it to me, and I love it. My wife and I both use them. This is a slim pillow that allows you to sleep on your back with helping to maintain that important cervical curve. If you are a side sleeper the edges are higher to help support your head. These pillows are also adjustable! There is an extra foam piece in the cervical cradle that you can add or remove based on your comfort. We spend a lot of time in bed and comfort is key to a restful healing sleep. (PS: Sleep Number is my 1# choice for bed).

Lumbar Support for Those Long Car/Train/Plane Rides: SOCKS

Socks. Yes, just socks. Everyone has lost a sock to two to the sock goblin so why not put those socks to good use. A killer on long trips is poor posture. When we lose the natural curve in our low back our shoulders roll forward and along with that comes our head causing not only low back pain but also neck pain and headaches. A simple fix without spending money on expensive lumbar pillows is a couple of old rolled up socks. Roll the socks together to create a ball and place that right above your sacrum. Just that little bit of pressure with increase your lumbar curve taking stress off your lumbar spine and will bring your head back over your shoulders.

Getting Adjusted!

And my most favorite thing of all is getting adjusted on a regular basis. I have a physical job and I beat up my body on a regular basis through exercise and sports. I know that having a healthy functioning spine and nervous system is the key to health and longevity.
